Grief Counseling: Finding Healing and Moving Forward

Grief disorientates you. It challenges who you are and who you want to become. Whether your loss is anticipated or unexpected, the death of a loved one, a painful life transition or a relationship loss or change, you don’t have to do it alone; let one of our compassionate therapists support and guide you in honoring your loss and finding your path forward.

Maybe you can't slow down because you think you’ll fall apart; you jump into problem-solving mode and your needs get pushed further and further away.

Maybe you feel guilty over something you said or didn't say to your loved one before they died; maybe you feel guilty for smiling, laughing or finding moments of happiness after a loss, thinking you owe it to your loved one to remain in sorrow.

Maybe tasks that you once found automatic and simple now feel overwhelming and impossible.

Maybe other people in your life expect you to be “back to normal” by now, which fuels feelings of shame.

Maybe you’re feeling isolated from people in your life because they say the most unhelpful platitudes at the worst times.

While you cannot avoid experiencing the pain of loss there are ways to help alleviate suffering. A therapist can be a compassionate ally, support and guide in your journey of grief. Working with a therapist can help with acceptance, processing emotions, finding meaning and identity and rebuilding your life while honoring your relationship with your loved one.

What might happen during a session?

  • Exploring your relationship with the person and/or the loss

  • Psychoeducation on grief and nervous system regulation

  • Creative (art or writing) exercises to help process emotions

  • Working on recognizing and challenging unhelpful thought patterns and beliefs

  • Exploring ways you can honor your loved one

  • Building support systems
